Malverne NY has a population of approximately 8,514 residents, located in the town of Hempstead in Nassau County. The village was originally settled by the Rockaway Indians, the exact time in history is unknown, but settlements can be dated back to the 1700’s. Originally known as Norwood, the name was later changed to Malverne because there already existed a Village of Norwood in upstate New York.
The village was incorporated in the early 1920’s and was originally spelled as Malvern (without the “e”) until the Long Island Rail Road began service to the area and misspelled the name. Trying to correct the error was futile as too many people had already come to know the village with the incorrect spelling.
